P.L.A.Y.
Dell M. Hamilton
Project presented in partnership with Future Boston Alliance and Discovery Roxbury.
In the spirit of experimental and ephemeral art pioneered by individual artists such as John Cage, Yoko Ono, and Allen Kaprow, in the performance art world, an “event score” is simply a set of instructions that are:
· Created to instigate participatory actions that are executed and interpreted by multiple individuals
· Enacted over time, geography and context
· Performed with a great deal of reverence for fun, play, serendipity and the live moment
As such, P.L.A.Y. (Poetry. Light. Art. You.) is conceived as a participatory, virtual poetic event score. P.L.A.Y. invites individuals from all walks of life to broadcast a poem about light via the new live feed mobile app, Periscope.
The poem can simply include the word “light” in it or “light” can be interpreted e.g. weight, mood, scientific, environmental, spiritual or visual. Poems can take any form such as sonnets, haikus, raps, limericks, or riddles.
