Resistance Garden
Sarah Brophy
Inspired by plant life that manages to thrive in hostile environments, Resistance Garden examines what it means to exist and adapt to life in a place where the odds are against you. By flourishing under adverse and severe circumstances, species such as Witch Hazel and Purple Saxifrage subvert the traditional meaning of femininity and delicacy that have long been associated with flowers. Positioned opposite of the patriotic Victory Gardens, Resistance Garden stands strongly in defiance of a system that seeks to devalue female bodies and limit access to basic needs.
