The Electrofunk Mixtape: ILLUMINUS Edition
Nettrice Gaskins, with Brian Browne, Hank Shocklee
Project presented in partnership with the Steam Lab at Boston Arts Academy.
Inspired by the TR-808 Drum Machine, which created an entirely new platform for musicians in the 1980s, these artists will use sensors and music to create a multimedia spectacle in a concourse of Fenway Park. The Electrofunk Mixtape is the result of a collaboration between the STEAM Lab at the Boston Arts Academy (BAA), Boston-based sculptor Brian Browne, and the “Phil Spector of noise,” Hank Shocklee. Electronics, music, and video projection will be layered on 3D objects that will hang or be worn by performers. Visitors will witness -- and participate in -- a responsive and highly visible 3D art installation that will respond to music and movement and light.
